Biography

Isabel Novella is a singer, composer, and performer from Mozambique whose music is rooted in African rhythms and shaped by soul, jazz, and traditional Mozambican sounds. With rich, multilingual vocals in Portuguese, English, and indigenous languages such as Chope and Changana, she crafts songs that explore love, healing, identity, and social transformation.

Born into a musical family and raised on stages around the world, Isabel has developed a unique voice and presence that transcends borders. A magnetic performer and cultural ambassador, she has released two acclaimed albums, collaborated internationally, and performed across Africa, Europe, and the U.S.

In 2013, she released her self-titled debut album “Isabel Novella” through Native Rhythms Productions and Sony Music Entertainment Africa. That same year, she was nominated for the RFI Discoveries Award, and her song “Moya” received a nomination for Song of the Year at the 2014 AFRIMMA. The album also featured her first international collaboration — with Bob James (Fourplay), who played piano on her track “Voices.”

Her second album “Metamorfose” (Metamorphosis), released in 2019 under Native Rhythms and Universal Music Africa, featured her brother Isildo Novella as bassist and co-producer on several tracks. This album earned her a 2020 nomination at the South African Music Awards (SAMA).

Isabel’s artistry is both grounded in heritage and globally resonant — a voice that bridges continents, generations, and genres. Currently working on her third studio album, she continues to tour and collaborate on multidisciplinary projects that span music, theater, and performance art.

Her sound is best described as a graceful balance between African rhythm and Western influence. A creative soul, Isabel remains open to learning, sharing, and connecting through music — always exploring new paths to express truth, memory, and transformation.
